About PAFnow

PAFnow is embedded in Microsoft Power BI and consists of three components:

  1. PAFnow Data Model
  2. PAFnow Report
  3. PAFnow Custom Visuals

The first component depends on an event log based on our requirements (see Event Log Specification). This event log is then converted to the PAFnow Data Model which is utilized to gain insight into your processes. You can utilize the PAFnow Companion or the PAFnow SSIS Packages (requires the SSIS addon), to transform your PAFnow Data Model:

In case your data is stored in an Microsoft SQL Server, please follow the instructions for an SQL Server Import. For further instructions read out information about the SSIS Package.

In both cases (Companion or SSIS Package), the data is imported into a *.pbit-format PAFnow Template, which creates your personal PAFnow Report using our predefined data model.

PAFnow Report

The PAFnow Report contains the following predefined report pages for generic overviews and analyses:

  • Discovery: Helps you oversee your processes.
  • Monitoring: Shows you key figures of your processes.
  • Difference Analysis: Finds out differences in the processes related to specific attributes.
  • Benchmarking: Compares two process flows based on your selection.
  • Variants: Examines individual paths from start to finish.
  • Loops: Evaluates repeating process steps and sequences.
  • Automation: Points out current degree and potentials of future process automation.
  • Lead Time: Provides insights into the duration of specific cases and variants.
  • Process Steps: Relates process steps to your total process performance.
  • Compliance Analysis: Evaluates your processes based on compliance conditions.
  • Conformance Check: Checks whether your process model represents your real processes.

PAFnow Custom Visuals

The report pages contain charts, so-called Power BI Visuals, to visualize process data. PAFnow Custom Visuals are such customized charts, specifically designed for the Process Mining-requirements, and cover many analytical functions that can help you to discover, analyze and improve your business processes.

This categorization according by their type gives you a condensed overview of our Custom Visuals:

Flow-visuals display data in a flow chart

Process Explorer builds a chart from successive process steps and Document Flow shows flows of document-based IT systems.

Comparison-visuals compare the measures

Case Viewer shows the process step sequence of individual cases.

Key figure-visuals present single values

Lead Time Calculator determines lead times for individual selections of your process while the Duration Card displays your lead time as a total.

Correlation-visuals show correlations between measures

Root Cause Analyzer discovers root causes of process behavior in relation to specific characteristics in your process.

Filter-visuals control report filters

Event Filter analyzes the order of steps in a process sequence, Attribute Filter filters your process based on attributes such as vendor, country,...

The Histogram Slicer can filter based on numerical attributes such as duration days. Process Explorer is also a very powerful tool to filter different path and process sequences.

Distribution-visuals display the distribution of values

Pareto evaluates the process performance using a 80:20 ratio.

If you want to add PAFnow Custom Visuals to your report, take a look at Setup for detailed instructions on importing and using Custom Visuals.
